This copy of Little Women is painted on the fore edge with watercolour and gouache. The ends are covered with gold gilt. Metallic copper highlights have been added to the clouds on the fore-edge, shimmering softly in natural light. Some strands of the original gilt of the fore edge still gleam through the painting when it’s tilted in the right light - I think they look like the shining threads of the story and the bonds between the characters.
The copy is a Chiltern Classics special edition.
