Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How can I buy a painted book from you?
I list painted books for sale in my store once a month. I also work on commissions - if you would like to work together on a bespoke design then please see my commissions page and get in touch. If there’s a title you’d like to see in the shop feel free to send me a message - I might take the inspiration and run with it!

  2. Will you paint a specific design for me? Absolutely - I love to work on commissions. Get in touch and we can work on your design.

  3. How will the books age?
Fore-edge painting is an art form dating back thousands of years. We still have beautiful examples of paintings done on the edges of books hundreds of years ago. All of my paintings use professional archival quality light-fast watercolour and gouache, designed to hold true to colour for hundreds of years. That said, books do age over time so it’s likely that the painting will have a gently aged-in look as you pass it down through future generations.

  4. How do I care for my newly painted book?
To give your new heirloom the best possible longevity, keep it stored away from direct sunlight and humidity. I store mine on a bookshelf out of direct sight of a window, in a room I use frequently.

  5. Can I still open the pages and read the book?
Absolutely! The pages can all be turned and read. I don’t recommend these as primary reading copies - the paint will wear with frequent touching. However the book can be opened and looked through. I have a client who annotates the pages of their painted copies for future generations to enjoy.

  6. Do you ship to my country?
Insured shipping within the UK is included in all of my prices. I can ship worldwide - just get in touch for a shipping quote.
